Here is the latest on the progress of C20 and related projects:

First Draft (The first phase of a project that is about the work being done by writers, not dev prep)

Art Direction

•C20 – Still dealing with artist shenanigans.

Now, lest you worry and have gnashing of teeth, "artist shenanigans" is actually a pretty basic situation when Art Directing a book the size of C20. You'd think that every artist around the world would be overjoyed to work on a book like C20, especially our classic Changeling artists, but the reality is that they have to schedule working on C20 with all the rest of the projects that they are working on, as well as having to deal with life issues and all that.

So we have an expected give and take when we contact artists for our projects, and even after we have agreed to terms and sent contracts artists can still drop out at any given point in the process, or need more guidance, or they (or a family member) got sick, or they even forget they got the assignment and need to renegotiate the deadline or the number of pieces or the subject matter they are willing to illustrate.

So we use the term "artist shenanigans" as a shorthand for all that, and adjust our art buys accordingly as the situation develops.

And once the art does all come in, the book is off to layout to combine the art and the text! Huzzah!

Here are some updates on the projects coming out of this KS:

Art in various stages of sketches continues to come in for Changeling 20th, while the text is now done in editing and being reviewed before being sent to layout.

The C20 Fiction Anthology is in "redlines", which is the stage where the developer or fiction editor, depending on your terminology, reviews and notes changes in the first drafts of the stories.

Kithbook Boggans is being outlined by the developer, which is what we do to provide a framework for the project because it sets down the chapters and what is expected to go in each one as well as the word count. Invaluable info to then hire writers with.

Changeling20 September Update

Hello C20 Backers!

Right now, Changeling 20's text has just left editing and the artists have been hired by Mirthful Mike Chaney. I hope to have some illustrations to tease you with for next month's Update.

Next up, the art and the text need to come together in layout, and we will start the layout, proofing, layout, proofing dance we do with every book.

As backers, you will be the first to get your backer PDFs after layout is done, and as such, we'll be asking you to send us any mistakes you note so that we can get the final PDF ready. That will be the file we base both the Print on Demand (PoD) versions on as well as your Deluxe C20 interiors.

But first, we have to get the art in and start layout.

Also, for those who are interested:

We are currently running a new Kickstarter for the second edition of Scion, the rpg where you play the children of the gods of mythology. This KS is to enable us to create and traditionally print the first two core rulebooks, Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero, and then to print sufficient extra copies besides the backers' books to get them into stores. We funded in 37 minutes and now the fun continues as we roll out the Stretch Goals and create new and different projects to go with the two core books.

August C20 Update

Hello Changeling 20th Backers!

Right now, the C20 manuscript remains in editing. A normal book takes about a month, larger and/or core books can take at least 6 weeks. At the same time, our art director, Mirthful Mike Chaney, is working with our artists, some classic and some new to CtD.

If there are any C20 KS backers who pledged in order to get their images used as reference for art in one of the C20 books and have not sent their pics to me as described in the email I sent, please get them in now or we can't guarantee your images will be used as reference for this book.

Also, please, please remember to fill in your BackerKit Surveys so we know your important info. The BK site you get linked to via the Survey allows you to keep an eye on your pledge, and also allows you to add more stuff if you already are a backer and forgot something while the KS was running.

Onyx Path'll be at the 2016 Grande Masquerade in New Orleans over the Labor Day Weekend and we'd love to say hi to any of you who'll be attending. We'll have a ton of tabletop games running and we'll be selling lots of our 20th Anniversary line books!

Right now, the C20 manuscript has been approved by the new White Wolf Publishing, and we have sent it to editing. At the same time, our art director, Mirthful Mike Chaney, is reaching out to artists, some classic and some new to CtD. Ideally, illustrations will be being created while the text is edited, then both text and art go to the layout graphic designer.

I have sent messages to the C20 KS backers who pledged in order to get their images used as reference for art in one of the C20 books and we're hoping everybody can get their pics in so that we can get them into C20 itself.
